On first glance, the Ferrari 488 Pista and the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ may seem pretty similar. Both are Italian supercars of the highest order. Both are higher-performance versions of supercars already in each manufacturer’s lineup (the Ferrari 488 and the Aventador S respectively). Both put the engine where it should be, in the middle. Both are obviously fast, but which one is better, faster, and more powerful? Find out as we explore these two supercars in our Lamborghini Aventador SVJ vs Ferrari 488 Pista comparison.

Battle of the Italian Supercars: Lamborghini vs Ferrari
The battle starts in the horsepower department, and the Aventador SVJ brings its A-game with 770 horsepower on tap. It puts that horsepower to good use too as it propels itself to a top speed of 217 mph, which is much faster than what the Ferrari 488 Pista can achieve.
Max speed isn’t everything of course, but in the battle to get up to 62 mph (100 km/h) the fastest, the Aventador SVJ slips by the Ferrari 488 Pista by five- hundredths of a second. When you’re dealing with acceleration times as tight as this, five-hundredths of a second is everything.
This all brings us to the engine. It’s a shame to see a V8in the engine bay of Ferrari’s primary mid-engine offering. Somewhere, Ferrari lost its way. It’s no longer a brand about performance and lifestyle. Its cars are showpieces, but they are not performance driven like the Lamborghini brand. This fact alone could be enough for us to hand this comparison over to Lamborghini, but with all the other evidence on display, it’s clear that the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ pulls out far ahead of the Ferrari 488 Pista, and it will keep the Ferrari in the rear view as it cruises away at 217 mph.
